Peter elbow is all about the writing experience on ones own, when Bartholomae believes in academic writing using teachers to form a concrete knowledge of how to write and the processes that go along with it. Bartholomae talks about how without teachers people would just follow main stream society and not develop a sense of there own writing and individualism. he feels that students should be taught the fundamentals. Bartholomae argument was strong and made it look like peter elbow didn't know what he was talking about.he called peters was foolish.
whats makes Bartholomae think that a teacher should make students write a certain way when they should develop there own style
why cant there be a mixture of both styles to create a master form of teacher/letting the students follow there own voice

my skills
Writing has never come easily to me. In high school I never was challenged to write my best, and if I didn’t do a good job on a paper the teacher would pass me anyways. Just like peter elbow I have trouble connection my outlines to my papers. And i have troubles getting started. When I do start writing I go off on tangents that are not related to the paper at all. in high school the English classes that I took were a joke, they didn’t ever teach me how to write a good paper I just sort of figured out what I needed to do to get a passing grade. I also have a big problem with procrastination. I leave everything till the night before and then rush to finish the paper usually producing a paper that is mediocre at best. I would really like to improve my writing skills, to better myself. I am looking forward to this class.
Peter Elbow
As I was watching the peter elbow youtube, I thought that it was interesting how he said that he had trouble writing and how he rambles on and goes off on tangents. I like his ideas on jotting down notes throughout the day before actually sitting down to write the paper. I am not the best at writing, but listening to peter elbow talk about how he had failures such as, not being able to connect his outlines to his paper, and not being able to come up with ideas for his paper, gives me hope for myself. I have a couple of questions that I would like to ask peter. First, what made you want to become a better writer when you already had plenty of degrees? How did you become a better writer on your own? After watching this video I am inspired to become a better writer, because if he can do it, I can do it!
